Old Bears Everywhere

R John Wright

R John Wright had always had an artistic yearning, so when in 1976 he became unexpectantly redundant, he thought he would try something new - an old idea, and began crafting his first fabric doll. Albeit crude, he immediately saw how to make improvements and alterations. Within just a few weeks he sold his first line of six - rustic dressed, felt dolls for $14 each. Within that same day, all had sold for $28 dollars each and a re-order was immediately placed. Over the next six months he perfected his technique, with sophisticated construction, joints and detailing. Inspired by Kathe Kruse and her fabulous moulded felt dolls, John & his wife Susan embarked on a mission to bring back the technique, that would grant R.J. Wright to produce dolls with moulded faces.

In 1981 R.John Wright proudly premiered their fabulous - Little Children Series to great acclaim. Over the years, big names such as Winnie the Pooh (1985), Snow White, Mickey Mouse and Cinderella arrived with Peter Rabbit (1998) not far behind. They were beautiful Limited Edition pieces, as perfect and detailed, as their illustrated images. They have continued crafting other literary characters such as the acclaimed Cicely Mary Barkers - Flower Fairies, Curious George, Alice in Wonderland, Palmer Coxs Brownies plus The Wizard of Oz and Paddington Bear, the list is endless. They also have their own celebrated collections - The Toddler Series, Christmas Mice, Springtime Friends and many more wonderful and fabulous designs. They have received many awards and acclaim, including the most prestigious and highly regarded, Jumeau Trophy considered a true recognition of achievement in the doll field.
