Old Bears Everywhere

Warner Bros - Wile E Coyote

First appearing in the Fast and the Furry-ous in 1949, we were introduced to the Road Runner (a species of Cuckoo that is fast-running on the ground and known to run 20MPH, native to South West America and Mexico) and Wile E. Coyote, (a wild canine that can be found in North, Mid, South America and Mexico), who was always creating one contraption or other, in order to try and catch the quick bird. Unfortunately Wile E. Coyote's purchases from Acme either fail, or catch him out, sometimes with devastating consequences, whilst Road Runner eats his treat oblivious (or is he), to what is actually happening around him.

The coyote is anthropomorphic, tall and slim with large alert ears, a long nose and filled jowls. In the scenes where he is lost or is tired he gets vivid red eyes, exhausted, whilst determined. He miraculously survives any fall however high, or any large object, whatever the size and weight landing on him, so that he can try another day.

Initially created as a parody to Tom and Jerry, Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner became popular in their own right and featured in 49 animations. In 2013, the American magazine TV Guide, listed Wile E. Coyote as one of "The 60 Nastiest Villains of All Time" … even though we always feel sorry for him. Quite the iconic character himself, he still features on readily available merchandise in the States and on-line.
